Knitting Olympics

Tonight I added a button for the Knitting Olympics in support of all of you who will be going for the gold. I personally will be in the stands with my popcorn. The only way I enjoy a sporting event is if the food is really good. Unless of course it is baseball. I love baseball and actually understand it! I have to find a Red Sox and Yankees button for the upcoming season.

Yarn Rangers

You will notice that I have a new item in the sidebar. It is my Yarn Ranger status. The gang on the Elann chat site decided that we have all spent way too much money on yarn over the holidays and we are now on a yarn diet. The goal is to knit 1000 yards a month for 3 months. You can't buy any new yarn until you have reached 3000 yards knit from your stash. This is going to be hard as the new summer yarns are coming soon. I didn't think I would get through 1000 yards this month but the sweater really helped. Once I finish Triangle I will be halfway through February's goal. Oh, thanks to all at last night's SnB, who helped me figure out the seaming of Triangle. I'm really not that dumb - just a little challenged in some areas.

I think I should fill you in on how I came about the name for my blog. Well, it is a take off Naughty Girls (in case you didn't figure that out already), because that is how I like to think of myself. Not "naughty" as in crack pipes and bank robberies but "naughty" as in wearing bright red lipstick to work or having a Margarita for lunch or sending cryptic sexy emails to DH from the work computer. Just a little bit unconventional and stepping "outside the box". We spend so much of our lives fulfilling what others expect of us that it is fun to do things that break the mold.

Buttons, Buttons, Who's Got the Buttons?

I am off to find new buttons and rings to join. We have discussed the Knitting Olympics tonight but I don't think I will join. Too much pressure to finish an item in just 17 days. I might stick the button on though just in support. Big Ups to Janna for helping me with the whole button thing. I joined the Southern Knitters over the weekend as I now consider myself an official southerner. Growing up in Maine I always felt a little out of place. After all, I was the only girl wearing makeup in my high school and dyeing my hair. And I didn't have one single plaid thing in my wardrobe. Even now, I still stand out when I go home.

I love going to Stitch n Bitch. I will be sad to leave my little group. We actually have about 90 members but most come up with some lame excuse as to why they can't come. So, I have come to enjoy the 5-10 people who do come and will miss them all terribly when I leave here. I am convinced that I will never find another group that I like. We don't all agree on everything but we are educated enough to know that you can respect an opinion without agreeing with it. I recently told DH (aka Charley) that making friends is too difficult - you have to weed out a dozen crazies to find one decent person - so I am not making any new friends. The friends I have now will just have to stick by me for a lifetime! I hope our new city has some sort of knitting group that is filled with a diverse group of hip people.

Better yet, I hope it has more than one LYS. We currently only have one. It has a good stock but you have to search the cubbies in the back of the store for it. To top it off, the decor, staff and customers haven't changed since the 1940's. Yes folks, they still handwrite receipts!!! Not only do they not have a computer, they don't even have a cash register! The funny part is - people will drive for hours to go there.

Where were you?

Do you remember where you were when you heard about the Challenger disaster? I was at home. My school only had one class watching and I had briefly heard mention of it on the bus but when I got home my mom called to tell me. She wanted to tell me before I turned on the tv and saw the news. It is hard to believe it has been 20 years. I was a junior in high school.

Since Blogger's server is back up and running I'll post photo of the sweater for Hannah. I hope she likes it. It is done in Encore in a pink with a white stripe. The pattern is from Ann Budd's Handy Book of Sweater Patterns. I just used the crew neck and made a stockingnet rolled neck collar. I should have made it larger but I don't think the kid will care.

It is so cool to have comments! Yeah! I officially have 3 readers. Of course 2 of them are the people who encouraged me to get a blog :-)

I have spent most of the day finishing this gosh darn sweater for my friend Kim's near 3-year old daughter. I made it once but used the sizing from a British pattern and it would have fit a 7-year old. I guess British children are larger than American kids. This time I did it in a 28-inch chest and it will still be big (unless her mom starts feeding her steriods) but she will grow. They live in Maine so it is likely that she will be sporting this until July! The collar leaves a little to be desired but again, she is only 3. She will likely be wearing this to play in a mud puddle or the sand pit in their back yard so I'm not too worried about it. I was going to post photos but Blogger can't find the server - seems to be a trend today.

While I was at the BX yesterday I thought I would peruse the magazines and pick up a knitting mag. Well, they didn't have any knitting magazines but they did have a plethora of nudies (what does that say about military personnel, hmmm?) and of course, 3 aisles of valentine candy. I purchased from one of these - anyone want to guess which one? Hint... it goes well with wine, candlelight and raging PMS. Yep, you got it, I hit the bag of Lindt truffles. Is it wrong to start eating them while you are still in the store?

Well, this is the first official post of my new blog! I don't know why it has taken me so long to get on the bandwagon. I can't promise that I will post every day as I do have a life but I will try to be faithful. Now I just need some readers!

I have been knitting for about 2 years and have to admit to being addicted. My first project ever was a baby blanket for a friend. Currently, I am working on another blanket for a baby coming in May, a sweater for a friend's 3-year old, the Triangle purse, and Wavy. Next up will be a sweater for Moi, and 2 baby sweaters.

This is a photo of me and my Baby Baxter. He is a 2-year old Great Pyrenees. He is a little small for a Pyr but he doesn't care. He also has a big brother named Calvin who is a Chow mix and a big sister named Annabelle who is also a Pyr. I will refer to them from time to time. I will usually group them under the name "Hellions".
